References, Footnotes, and Bibliography

Authors are requested to follow the Harvard system, as interpreted below.

Quotations
Direct quotation of more than two lines separate from the rest of the paragraph and indented at left margin, without use of quotation marks.  Reference to the author, date, and page number should follow the quotation in round brackets. Short direct quotations may be inserted directly into the text, with double quotation marks and the page number in round brackets.

References
When referring to the source of a quotation or an opinion, give the author's name and year in brackets, preferably in a footnote. If providing title and/or subtitle in either text or footnote, italicise. If more than three authors, include first and replace others with "et al."

Footnotes
Footnotes should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. References in footnotes may be restricted to the author's name and year of publication. It the author prefers to include the title, then the full title should be given.

Bibliography
There should be a full bibliography in alphabetical order. The following conventions should be used:

Blog
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S) or INSTITUTION. Year. Title of blog entry. Date blog entry written. Title of Blog [online]. [Date accessed]. Available from World Wide Web: URL

Books (one or more authors)
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). (ed.). Year. Title. City of publication: Publisher

For electronic books use
[online] after title, [Date accessed] after publisher, and Available from World Wide Web: URL at end.

Chapters in edited books
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Chapter title. In: INITIAL(S) FAMILY NAME OF EDITOR(S), ed(s). Title of book. City of publication: Publisher, Page numbers.

CD-ROM
Title. Year. [CD-ROM]. City of publication: Publisher.

Conference papers and proceedings
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Title of paper. In: Editor(s) of conference proceedings if known. Title of conference, date of conference, location of conference. Place of publication: publisher. Page number(s).

Journal article
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Title of article. Journal title. Volume (issue number), page numbers.

For electronic journal articles
Add [online] after title, [Date accessed] after volume no, Available from World Wide Web: URL at end.

Major reference works
Title. Year. s.v. Section heading, page number.

Newspaper article
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Title of article. Newspaper title, date, page number of your quotation

Theses and dissertations
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Title. Type of qualification, academic institution

Website with author
FAMILY NAME, INITIAL(S). Year. Title [online]. [Date accessed]. Available from World Wide Web: URL

Website with no author
Title of website. Year as appearing on site [online]. [Date accessed]. Available from World Wide Web: URL
